Greetings from Apple

Last summer Larry and Harry had a visit from the States.His name was Apple and he had saved just enough money to visit Copenhagen and to buy a Bluebird´71.Yesterday Harry received a mail from Apple and it went like this:

"I love my Bullitt. I ride it much more than I expected. It has become my main bicycle. I hardly ever ride the other two. I ride it to work everyday which is about 19 miles round trip. While it is good for hauling groceries and my girlfriend, I really like that the bike makes me relax. The first few weeks I was riding it fast. Working hard to run about 15 mph. I realized that I can take it easy and enjoy the bike and the ride much more at 12mph. So the bike is helping me to be relaxed when I get to work.

Here in Indianapolis (not Minneapolis) there are no other cargo bikes around. People stare and ask questions all the time. Often guys in truck and rednecks have a bad attitude towards bicycles. The funny thing is those same guys love this bike. I have walked out of a shop and had construction workers come over to look at the bike. The guys in trucks seem to understand the bike better than most people who ride bikes. Other times I will pass someone and I can tell by their facial expression that they just realized that a bicycle can do far more than they ever expected. It's fun for me to watch people's reaction."

The first of September next year a danish bike-classic will return: Århus-København.Starting in Århus,crossing 2 straights on bridges normally closed for bikes,and finally ending up in Copenhagen.375 kilometers,a fair ride for a racingbike but a serious mouthfull for a Bullitt.So a Bullitt-ride it will be for a very dear friend of Larry and Harry,our own Claus Andersen aka Copenhagenthighs.With a calculated average speed of 28 km/h he will arrive Copenhagen the same day at 7.30 PM.
If you happens to be in Copenhagen that day,come and join Larry and Harry celebrating this viking returning from the west.

Team Bullitt Hangover

Finally it is a fact:the worlds first cargobike club is now training!The goal is of course to win a lot of races but most of all it is about spending a couple of hours weekly with friends.Today was the first official training and five fine fellows appeared at the meeting point under Lange Bridge.Despite a cold and strong wind everybody survived the 50 kilometer ride in 2 hours.Following the five fine fellows were awarded with a visit at McDope.

Today Larry and Harry wants you to share a story about one of their new friends:Melvin from Bristol.
Melvin has just started his own business and among other stuff he needed a vehicle.Though Melvin is not a young hipster he is a man with modern ideas and he decided to go for a Bullitt,more precisely a Clockwork.To learn a little more about his new purchase and to see some beautiful parts of England,he went to Telford and picked the Bullitt and rode home.108 miles in 12 hours!

A week ago,Larry and Harry declared,that the world should be aware of the upcoming Superfly.So,what was it all about;what was behind the hype?Surprisingly it was a bicycle,a new Bullitt,technically top of the line and beautifully designed too.Another icon from the supreme duo,this time in a warm co-operation with the design duo,Tombola.
More important,than all the technical issues (11-speed Alfine groupset,Supra rims,Schwalbe Marathon Supreme tires etc) was the fact,that the bike should be launched and celebrated at a great party in the shop in Copenhagen.And what a party it was!Excellent coffee served at the sidewalk by Ole from Kaffecyklen,cold beers elegantly delivered by Tuborg,Bullitts of all kind (including the first customized Superfly) and a lot of great people made it a night to remember.The night was in another word:Superfly!

King of the alleycat

It has been a crazy bike-week in Copenhagen.The World Championships in road racing took place in the center of the city,closing down automobile traffic for almost 4 days.More will follow about this story.
As an event to celebrate bicycling,Rapha,WHC and Larry and Harry organized an alleycat in the late night streets of Copenhagen.The danish cargobike champion,Claus,participated on his Bullitt.If it wasn´t for a taxidoor he might even have won.Instead the winner must be this bloke;after two puntures he wasn´t able to continue and therefor he rented a citybike and fulfilled the race.That´s the spirit!

It was a beautiful Copenhagen morning when a local girl turned 125 years.The Irma girl,the representative of the supermarket Irma,was celebrating her birthday by handing out ecological carrots to the passing bicycles and pedestrians.This is just as sweet as it can be (actually there were two Irma girls with carrots which made it double sweet)!

In Denmark election was announced yesterday at 11.15 AM.The rule is that you are not allowed to put up posters for the politicians before the election is announced.At 11 AM there were no posters in Copenhagen,at 12.30 PM thousands of posters were hanging all over the city.How could they be that efficient?By using cargobikes for the transportation,stupid!
On the photo you see Søren on Nørrebrogade putting up posters for the social democrat,Ida Auken (both participants in the 2010 Danish Cargobike Championships).
Please note that the danish premier minister officially choose the date for the election so it wouldn´t interfere with the Racebike World Championships in Copenhagen.We therefor bring a photo of him to show how serious he is about biking,his choice of date probably shows how unserious he is about politics.

Yesterday Larry and Harry had their annual summer party in their shop in Copenhagen.And what a party it was!Therfor they would like to thank the following:Svajerduoen for bringing music and an incredible amount of energy,Daniel from Byman Cykler for bringing his portable music machine and for trying to skid the fixed Bullitt,the sidekick Claus for taking care of the shop today,Charlotte and Maja for being able to drink vodka and shooting photos,Microsoft Gay Pride for sponsoring the beers,the neighbors for their patience with us,Anna Nichole for showing her nice legs and lingerie,the danish police for being so polite and sober at 2 AM,Mads for being so welldressed,the guys from Soigneur for good sportsmanship,Jeppe from Maduro for being the funniest guy alive and last but not least to all those who dropped by for a beer and a dance.Larry and Harry love you all!

The Bullitt and the sportscar

A while ago this blog had a story about a good friend of Larry and Harry,the fabulous british gentleman Ken.At the same time as Ken had got his first Bullitt TNT an old friend of his had fulfilled his old dream and purchased an Aston Martin.Following the two friends realized,that of these two magnificent vehicles it was the Bullitt who draw the most attention from the girls.
This weekend a funny similar incident took place.The bavarian gentleman Florian (yes,another gentleman and another great friend of Larry and Harry) had a call from his cousin.While standing in front of the Brandhorst Museum in Munich he had seen a Bugatti Veyron,one of the most wonderful cars in the world.When the car passed the museum he was distracted by two parked bikes.He had forgotten the car and instead focussed on these beautiful pedal-powered vehicles.Do we need to say which vehicles it was?

A good friend of Larry and Harry,Pierce Brosnan,was in Copenhagen recently.To visit Copenhagen requires a bikeride,that counts for everybody.Therefor our good friends were asked to find a bike that would fit the former James Bond.Obviously they did not choose the Bullitt. Pierce should ride something exclusive,something that was danish,classic and suitable for an irish gentleman.In order to get a vehicle like that,Harry called another great gentleman,Ivan from Baisikeli.He knew exactly what Harry was asking for and told that a bike of that describtion could be picked up at his house.And what a vehicle:an original Hamlet from 1952 with only one owner before Ivan.It just needed a little air in the tires and then it was ready.
Under the wings of a Copenhagen angel,Mrs Bullitt,Pierce rode his Hamlet for 6 hours around the beautiful town.Even James Bond had to surrender to the bikes when he was copenhagenized.

A great idol of Larry and Harry is Andreas.You might remember him from last year when he did the swedish classic race,Vättern Rundt.Riding his fixed Bullitt wasn´t a real good idea considered the hilly route and the equipment he had to carry for a web-cameraman.So this year he did it again but on a derailleur-geared Bullitt instead.His only comment after 300 tuff kilometers:"It wasn´t that bad!"That language is called viking!

While in Las Vegas, Nevada, to watch Dick Tiger fight a middleweight title fight, Knievel first saw the fountains at Caesar's Palace and decided to jump them. To get an audience with the casino's CEO Jay Sarno, Knievel created a fictitious corporation called Evel Knievel Enterprises and three fictitious lawyers to make phone calls to Sarno. Knievel also placed phone calls to Sarno claiming to be from ABC-TV and Sports Illustrated inquiring about the jump. Sarno finally agreed to meet Knievel and the deal was set for Knievel to jump the fountains on December 31, 1967. After the deal was set, Knievel tried to get ABC to air the event live on Wide World of Sports. ABC declined, but said that if Knievel had the jump filmed and it was as spectacular as he said it would be, they would consider using it later.

Knievel used his own money to have actor/director John Derek produce a film of the Caesar's jump. To keep costs low, Derek used his then-wife, Linda Evans, as one of the camera operators. It was Evans who filmed Knievel's famous landing. On the morning of the jump, Knievel stopped in the casino and placed a single $100 dollar bet on the blackjack table, which he lost, stopped by the bar and got a shot of Wild Turkey and then headed outside where he was joined by several members of the Caesar's staff, as well as two scantily clad showgirls. After doing his normal pre-jump show and a few warm up approaches, Knievel began his real approach. When he hit the takeoff ramp, he felt the motorcycle unexpectedly decelerate. The sudden loss of power on the takeoff caused Knievel to come up short and land on the safety ramp which was supported by a van. This caused the handlebars to be ripped out of his hands as he tumbled over them onto the pavement where he skidded into the Dunes parking lot. As a result of the crash, Knievel received a crushed pelvis and femur, fractures to his hip, wrist and both ankles and a concussion that kept him in a coma for 29 days.

What´s wrong with the automobile industry?

Lately there have been a lot of talk concerning the automobile industry trying to benefit from bicycles. Bikes are being used in car commercials and bikes are being produced by the producers of cars. These bikes are usually just funny - not bad but not great either, just funny.
Today this blue mountain bike showed up in a bike rack close to the shop of Larry and Harry. Apparently produced by an iconic producer of cars. Even highly-praised models. So why did Ford make this blue pile of iron shit? Will this actually help sell more Fords?
Is a Ford a good automobile? No idea.But we have to warn you; do not buy a bike from Ford (unless it´s a gift for somebody you hate)!

Today is a great day for all danes,a day to celebrate.The Pølsevogn turns 90 today!
The pølsevogn (sausage wagon) is the place were you can go and buy classics as the hotdog,the to ristede med brød and the poor mans favorite:the krasser.Though the pizzas and shawarmas are pushing the pølsevogn it is still alive.Every morning and every evening you see them blocking the car traffic (just like the Christiania trikes are blcking the bike lanes).

Today there was a mail from our good friend,G.He´s working as a Bullitt messenger in Paris and like every other city in Europe they have had some snow lately.Well,not exactly like Copenhagen,just a few centimeters.Never the less this powerful nation has been given 16 of these vehicles to the city of Paris in order to get rid of the snow in the streets.
Larry and Harry chose not to comment on this;they just quote G when he asks:"Next time nuclear weapon?".

Review from a customers wife

The following is a mail that Larry and Harry received some days ago:

"I lost my husband to cycling some time ago, if not to beach road then to a rail trail, a ride up Mt.Bulla or a trip to Lysterfield Park. Our shed is filled with the guilty other parties (all necessities, or so I am told), there's the old mountain bike, the red road bike and the single speed commuter. It was with no shame, recently, that my husband told me he'd "found another ride that we really seriously needed to buy", only later confessing that the afore mentioned ride, the Bullitt Milk Plus Cargo bike, was in fact already on order!

He was about as happy as a kid in a toy store when the DHL guy arrived with the bike. He hummed his way through the construction video and, once the box of parts had become 'the Milk Plus', he took her out for her maiden voyage, returned with her first cargo (a beer or two) and fondly declared her 'open for business'. And that is about the last I have seen of him and our daughter..

I hear our daughter though, in fact she can be heard about two blocks away, and there's a notable theme to her chatter: "this is the most fuuuuuun", "around again, around again" at the roundabout, and my husbands least favourite "go faster Daddy, faster, faster".

I've found the silver lining to this cloud as, with them out exploring, I can grab a coffee and drink it while it's still hot and hang out with our younger tot a little. But only a little as he's getting his first bike helmet this Christmas and, with a seat installed, will soon be out on the road with the others.

In all seriousness, the bike is fantastic. It looks slick, rides like a dream and entertains our children beyond measure. Importantly, it negates our need for a second car and, in fact, vastly reduces the number of local journeys made in our only car. Perhaps an unexpected pro, though the bike gets noticed and though it draws a point, stare and occasional wave, it does generally speaking start conversations with a really nice sort of person!

So I celebrate this new bike, our second car, our small white beaut-Ute, the best toy that either kid (or their dad) could have been given this year. As the mountain bike gathers dust, and the shine dims on the road bike, the 'Milky Wonder' has found a place in my heart."

This morning when Harry was riding out to the workshop it was snowing.So of course the bikelanes were slippery and unfriendly.Now Harry,unlike Larry,is a tough guy who gives a damn about bad weather and he expected to have the new extra wide bikelane to the workshop for himself.

Well,a Ferrari for urban use,can only be purchased for one reason,namely to impress girls.Considered that fact,here is a part of an email Harry received today.A happy Bullitt owner wants to describe the impact of riding his vehicle:"Also,don´t tell my wife,but this bike complete with dog accessory,is a total "Babe Pulling Machine!!!"My partner recently bought an Aston Martin,his dream!He is 60 and finally gets his dream machine.I spoil his day,by telling him it´s shit,I have the ultimate babe machine,,,a Bullitt TNT and a dog!!Hyde Park on a sunny day,,,wooo,non stop photographing by tourists".

These are facts we like:a couple of drops of oil for the bike and a meatball for the dog instead of a tank of burned gasoline will help save the world from a lot of CO2.And,now officially proved,make girls go wild!

It all comes to an end

After a busy week,the fair has finally come to an end.No more Bullitt testrides,no more explaining the steering system and no more "so good to see you"`s.It´s over!
What was a spotless exhibition two days ago is now a refugee camp lookalike.Finally nobody officially gives a shit about bicycles.

A lot of bikes have been sold the last week,of them a huge amount of Bullitts.Pilgrims from all over the world have gathered at the Larry vs Harry booth in order to get a glimpse of the famous cargobike.And of course to shake hands with the superstars from Copenhagen!Though rich and successful,neither Larry nor Harry denies to give an autograph or a kiss on the cheek.Damn great guys!

Not wearing company shirts makes Larry and Harry look really strange at the Eurobike fair. A black or dark-blue shirt with 'Bullitt' written on the collar would make them look like real bike dealers.
And then again they are way too childish and stupid to manage wearing that nice clothes. Take last night; a great party was held by the Eurobike organization. They had hired the Berlin act, The Bearpit Karaoke, to come and give a show. Of course Larry and Harry felt they should join the party and of course it would be polite to sing a tune or two.

Today neither Larry or Harry have any voice left from singing over twenty songs. Both had an accident with their Bullitt afterwards and ruined their exhibition-pants. Larry also bruised a rib and Harry has an aching head from hitting himself with the microphone while performing his version of "My generation".

Hope I die before I get old...

Being at the world's largest bike fair means that you are together with the global bike industry. A mix of businessmen who have entered this world because of their dedication to bicycles and biking. Right! Every morning and every evening the surroundings of the fairground is crowded with cars. Everyone is stuck in traffic, even though this is the countryside. Well, our good friends Larry and Harry will not have to wait in line, 'cause they use their Bullitts for transportation. 10 minuttes ride from the hotel, if you are bikeriding. By car it will take an hour!
This industry doesn´t give a shit if they are producing bikes, boats or bananas; as long as it´s good business. Maybe that´s why this fair is a twisted bitch with a minimum of good and new ideas.
Go grow bananas, boys!

As formerly explained,going to a fair is lots of action and fun.Take a bikefair;you build the booth,you assemble the bikes,you polish them,you talk to customers and you sleep.Great fun.
Oh,and then you eat!Every time you get the chance you eat;small meals,big dishes,snacks,candy,icecream etc.
The need for food is as simple as the need for sex but all you can get here is food.

One hour later they got lost in the forrest while trying to find their hotel.This Bavarian jungle really tried to swallow the brave danes.Well dressed (of course) on their Bullitts (of course) with a couple of very heavy suitcases they struggled through the muddy wilderness,totally lost.Poisoned leaves,mosquitoes and extremely muddy paths;lucky to be alive!

During the Velovisipn conference in Copenhagen a few months ago there was a goldsprint competition arranged by the magnificent Danish Bicycle Federation.All bikeshops and bikeproducers in Copenhagen were asked to donate gifts to the competition.
Larry and Harry of course wanted to show their generosity.Also they wanted to please fans,who had travelled to Copenhagen in order to see or even meet these two celebs.Therefor they decided to donate some distinguish piece of art.
As you can see on the photo,love and happiness were spread to the winners,who won the two copies of the tight and famous butts of Larry and Harry.

For a long time Larry and Harry have had a dream:building up a cycling team,who goes out training every sunday.On Bullitts,of course!So,today the dream became a reality.The danish champion,Claus,and Harry,went out for a ride in the hilly North Sealand.It was supposed to be a relaxed sunday ride and they even brought a Klara Geist hifi to cheer up the ride.
Well,boys will be boys and Claus and Harry continued the discussion wether it was Claus or Harry who pushed the other one in the cargorace final a week ago.While the discussion increased so did the speed and after 2 hours they had fulfilled their dream of riding 60 kilometers.In Copenhagen there is a tradition of ending up at the cafe called Around the World after training.If you don´t get a kick out of the training you will get a kick out of the cake and and icy coke they serve here!

In the future Larry and Harry will make a real Bullitt Cycling Team,inviting all Bullitt owners to join us.The speed will be moderate,there will be music during training and in the end:cake and icecold coke!

What is it with Larry and Harry?Like children at christmas,they are walking around smiling and laughing of nothing.OK,they have a reason to smile;they have a reason to be happy.
This weekend they were arranging the danish cargo championship,the Svajerløb.Like last year,a beautiful spot in Copenhagen were closed,in order to let a bunch of kids race their racebikes and a group of grownup kids race their cargobikes.And like last year it was a festival of bikes,beers,hotdogs and sunshine.Not least,Bullitts took all medals,both in the 2-wheel race,the overall cargorace and the relay.
Now you know why the two dudes are smiling!

Last year our good friend Andreas from Stockholm participated in the European Messenger Championships on a Bullitt.In the cargorace he became 4.th.Really amazing considered he was riding a fixed Bullitt!
This year he didn´t go for the championships and we thought he had become lazy and weak.Don´t underestimate the vikings;he has just been preparing for the swedish classic Vattern Rundt,a bicycle race of no less than 300 kilometers.

Life is full of surprises!Last week Harry got a mail from a gallery in Copenhagen with an invitation to come and see a painting of a Bullitt.Curious he entered the gallery,to see the artistic impression of his dear bikes.
Surprise #1:It was a giant painting.
Surprise #2:Two out of three of the painted bikes,were Bullitts.
Surprise #3:Of the 5 randomly chosen persons at the painting,were Harry,his wife and there two kids,Oli and Lulu.

Last year Larry vs Harry and firmacyklen.dk,arranged the national championship for cargobikes,Svajerløbet.An old tradition were being taken to life again on a sunny day in April.
What a great arrangement,it was,with Bullitts placed in front.Or almost in front...
Though we have been trying to forget,the fact was,that Harry was beaten by a frontwheel in the finals.Beaten by a dutch cargo tank!

We meet Marcus a couple of years ago.He had a BMX bike shop in Germany,and like a lot of guys in the bicycle business he had a lot of wild and strange ideas.One of his specialities was to to convert cargobikes into fast e-bikes.Realy fast e-bikes.When you pass 50 km/h on a cargobike,it´s a bad idea to hit a hole or a rock.But if you have a suspension fork,it´s no problem.And if you make it a full suspension 500 watt e-Bullitt you can go racing off road.

What do Larry and Harry have in common with Steve McQueen?
-Bullitt is the name of their first cargobike,Harrys middlename and the name of Steve in the movie "Bullitt".
-the fascination of vehicles.
-the fascination of racing these vehicles.
So when a german friend told,that he knew where a racingcar,once owned by Mr McQueen,was,they didn´t hesitate to contact the new owner.It happened to be an engineer from Bavaria,who owns and still races the car.He kindly offered the guys to take some photos of the Bullitt and his car together.What a nice guy!

A couple of weeks ago,we mentioned a guy,Kjeldby,who had done a 15000 kilometer,riding on a Bullitt Classic as a messenger.
Last thursday he popped by the shop in Copenhagen,just to buy himself a brand new Bluebird´71 Ext.He and his friend had decided to open up there own window cleaning company.As an experienced urban bikerider,he knew,that the fatsest way to get around inside the city,even if you have to carry some stuff,is on a Bullitt!
It pleases Larry and Harry to see,that a couple of youngsters don´t let themself fool by the common idea of ideal transportation.
By choosing the same way of transportation as their grandfathers,these blokes show themself as a visionary and modern company.

When you establish a company,you will usually do the following 3 things:
1.Get a VAT-number
2.Rent a shop,a workshop or an office.
3.Buy a car or a van.
Larry and Harry have a shop and a workshop and they have also achieved a VAT-number.But as a producer of cargobikes,they felt it was like cheating,also to have a van.A van is a helpful friend in alot of situations but it is also a polluting,expensive,old-fashioned and stupid way to transport your butt from A to B!The main purpose of the Bullitt,is actually to offer a real alternative to this fuel-burning madness.

So,how does it actually work,when bikes has to be transported,from the workshop to the shop or from the shop to the customer?

Today Larry and Harry opens up their garages,to show the choices of two specialist.Now it´s time to let the world know,what these two guys really want to ride.

First we pay a visit to Harry´s garage,a warm,dry and cosy place;the perfect place for a great collection of bicycles.Here you will find a ´76 Bianchi racingbike,a XTR-equipped Klein mountainbike,a Christianiabike with trailer,a ´52 Long John,a handbuilded Dawes tandem and 2 rickshaws.Or more precisely;you would find,because two years ago a bunch of burglars emptied the garage!Fortunately he has been given a Bullitt Bluebird´71,so he is happy!

Larry has been the owner of many beautiful bikes too,somehow he just seems to forget where he parks his bikes.When Harry got his Bluebird,Larry was given a Clockwork.Two lucky guys!

Lately the stock has become a little low,and when a customer wanted a Clockwork and didn´t matter a few scratches,Harry sold him Larry´s Clockwork.

This guy,Kjeldby,was the first messenger to ride the Bullitt.As a part of the transport company Bring,he was riding the Bullitt,no matter rain or snow.If you could talk about a testpilot when it comes to bikes,Kjeldby was the man.He maintained the bike in order to make it run every day for 8 months.
